Sprint 57 review - March 29, 2017
Welcome to Sprint 57 recap. In this sprint we merged a total of 565 pull request combined, almost 10% more than last sprint’s 518, and well ahead of what we used to achieve with 3-week sprints in 2016! The 180 PRs in the main repo is distributed in thirds between enhancements, bugs, and everything else. We are also growing in number of repos, from 103 repos 5 sprints ago, to 108 now. The new repos introduced this sprint are amazon_ssa_support and manageiq-ui-scaffold. More info on them will come as they get populated.
More repos are planned for extraction over the next couple of sprints, including SQL Schema, several Providers, and Automate Engine. Besides splitting repos in April, you can find ManageIQ in action at events in Warsaw, Brno, Amsterdam and Gothenburg. Come by and say hi if you’re in the vicinity!
We have been steadily moving towards the Fine release, with branching complete for 14 of the repos. Work is ongoing for the soon-to-be-announced Fine Beta. As such, this is the last sprint to get the bulk of the Fine features in. To help make sense of it all, Libor and Dr. Drew have finely selected a number of moves by Euwe and Pontificatory Requestiveous. Make sure to keep up your weekly dose of “Last Week in ManageIQ”.
Service UI added several “Behind the Scenes” features, such as the ability to restore snapshots to VMs, and RBAC to all tabs (except Service details). The framework for Reports viewer is in place and we will have the ability to view reports next sprint! Classic UI is front and center with a multitude of enhancements. These are best appreciated through the screenshot collection in the Sprint 57 Slide deck, with the likes of the updated Ansible Service summary screen and new Filter options for Container Provider ad-hoc metrics. Corresponding CRUD support for configuration script sources and authentications have been added to the API. There’s now a unique identifier href_slug accessible as a virtual attribute for all resources. Automate methods that list dialog items can also use href_slug to uniquely identify an object. Extra vars being passed to Ansible Playbook can contain these partial hrefs. For Embedded Ansible, you will get a notification when the server starts (which might take a few minutes, so it’s nice to be notified). Have a look at the demo which uses Ansible Playbook to add a VM to a Service.
Further enhancements include updating the inventory refresh process in Amazon provider to associate AWS tags to ManageIQ tags, which opens the door for using AWS tags in ManageIQ. On the RHEV side, the new oVirt SDK is taken into use. Provider-specific settings are moved from the core repo to the respective provider repos that have been already extracted. Appliance console now displays IPv6 details on summary screen, with a dialog for making IPv6 settings. QE is also in good shape with 80% of feature set for Ansible testing implemented (and the rest awaiting descoping confirmation).
